A Little Bit About Me

My name is Steffan Woodruff, I'm a Music Technology graduate from the University of York and Roughwood Records is my baby.  I started as an instrumentalist, but after getting a hand injury, my piano teacher introduced me to the world of recording and I haven't looked back since  (Thank you Mr Owen).

I have now been recording and mixing songs of my own creation and those of others for several years.  I gained experience from a radio presenter for my local county, Eifion Williams, and helped him record several bands and choirs for the station and for local artists. When I was in sixth form I was recording my friends' A level music coursework, as well as local bands.

Moving on to university, I joined the university's radio station (URY) as an engineer and soon started mixing  live bands every week  for their Session Show.  I slowly took over the running of the programme but still kept to my roots.

I now help run a small cozy studio called Sweet Spot Studios, being both their studio engineer and mixing and mastering engineer.

I have been asked to record people for many reasons, some want promotional material, others want recordings as presents for their families.  I realized, looking at this market, that these days the internet offers you a lot of this type of business but usually for more money than people want to spend.  I know that my prices are low compared to most places but I love what I do, I want to help people get their music out there and for a price that they can afford.  The technology you need now is so readily available most people can, and do, record in their bedrooms. I know I still do!  There are many guides to help you with this, and you can get a good sound straight away, but what books and videos can't teach you is how to mix and master - this comes with experience.  What I'm offering you is my experience, and with it a consistently high standard of mixing and mastering .

I believe that my combined experience of practical music-making and knowledge gained through years of practice can really help to make your recorded songs sound that much better for the fraction of the price you would have to pay to a bigger company.  And you will be there every step of the way. It's important to me that you get what you want!  It is your music at the end of the day, so communication between us is high on my priority list, as well as getting the best and most polished sound possible.

And so I hope I will be speaking with you and listening to your songs soon, and that I haven't bored you too much with this blurb....
